14/12/09 - What the industry can expect in 2010?

According to expectations of the leading tour operator TUI, the tourism industry in 2010 will not undergo significant changes, although there will be several new trends coming to dominate the market in the nearest future.

The TUI poll Trends 2009 shows that despite the economic crisis more than 80% tourists plan to go abroad for holidays in 2010. According to Thomson and First Choice surveys, the tourists will continue to prefer 'all-included' hotels in 2010, and Turkey and Egypt are the leaders in offering these services. TUI estimates the number of tourists visiting Turkey will dwindle by 18.5% in 2010, and therefore Egypt will top the list for the first time in many years - although it will also see the number of tourists decreasing by 8%. Experts believe the bus tours will become the thing of a past, as the high tariffs for bus tours in historical landmarks are destroying the sector of tourism industry. Samsung Electronics research shows the demand for 'green' hotels is growing - e.g., 65% respondents believe all hotels should have toilets with water saving mode, and 48% believe hotels should use electricity saving devices and gadgets. The bad news is, next year the flight tickets, especially for the short and medium distance flights, will become more expensive by 25 to 30 %, International Travel Berlin 2010 fair experts say, adding that the main reasons are the carriers' fear of losses and the rise of tariffs and duties in airports. Meanwhile, World Travel Market Global Trends organization experts note a peculiar tendency for the 2010 - the number of tourism services for 'women only' will almost double, and they usually are related to tourism centres in Near East - women-only hotel floors or even hotels, one-sex tours have always been part of Arabian tourism industry, especially in Saudi Arabia. But now Egypt and Iran will introduce similar steps, considering the cultural and religious tradition in the region, and therefore the number of local female tourists will be growing. Western tourists could also take a liking to such services in these countries.
