31/03/10 - A Western tourist goes less frequently to a village

Enterprise Estonia (EAS) tourism development center director Tarmo Mutso wrote that a very clear trend was drawn last year in the tourism sector: our proportion amongst destination markets has become that which it was five years ago.

The number of hotel bookings from four of the five greatest markets of that time – Finland, Sweden, Germany and the UK – has fallen to below 2004 levels. Had tourist numbers from Russia, Latvia and Lithuania and also domestic tourism not grown strongly in the meantime, we would be much sadder at the moment. The EAS tourism development center is trying to raise consumer awareness and a wish to come to Estonia with spring campaigns in Finland and Italia, a summer campaign in Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania and Germany, and winter campaigns in Russia, the UK and Norway. We are additionally taking part in nine large tourism fairs. As a result of continuous work, the Western European tourist who has recently become rare should also find a path to Estonia.
